Last year, Alison and I went a travelling round Scotland and eventually found ourselves on the Isle of Arran. It's a beautiful place, well worth a visit in and of itself. Whilst traveling around the isle we visited the King's Cave, the legendary hiding place of Robert the Bruce, where he was inspired by the tenacity of a spider spinning its web to go on and become king of Scotland.
It was outside the main cave we came across the unusual sight photographed above and below. Someone (or someone's) had balanced a large number of rocks on top of each other along the costline and had evidently spent a lot time here in this remote location. It was an unusual sight to come across and I found it absolutely fascinating. I have tried to find out more information about who is responsible for this, but haven't found anything so far. There also isn't much information about rock balancing online, with it's two main proponents being Bill Dan - who's website features some amazing work and Dave Gorman (yes, that Dave Gorman) - his flickr account containing an extensive collection of his balances.
