John Street Birds

I always love the moment when a new aspect of the city is revealed to me. After reading this post over on Skyliner, I realised I've walked up and down John Street countless times, but had never noticed the birds overhead. Just look at them all - aren't they beautiful?

Scarfed Statue

This is one of a number of statues dotted around the Brussels City Centre currently wrapped in masses of scarfs. It's in aid of an aids awareness charity, though I haven't been able to track down their details as yet.

First Street Acrobats

The gymnastic figures can be found leading up to the shiny new council offices at One, First Street. Does anyone know their correct title and the artist? It would be nice to label them correctly.

The Fallowfield Loop

I was handed an information booklet about the Fallowfield Loop at Chorlton's Big Green Festivaland decided to have a wander along and see what the path was like. Previously a railway line, the Loop is now an urban cycle-path, 8 miles in length, starting in Chorlton and winding it's way through Withington. Fallowfield, Levenshulme before finishing in Fairfield. I found the Chorlton starting point just over 100 metres away from of my current address and then walked along the path until reaching the Fallowfield exit.

It's an incredibly peaceful place, with the sound of birdsong filling the air and traffic merely a background noise. The lack of people contributed to the sense of calm as well, with no one around except for the occasional cyclist or dog-walker. What I found interesting is that the path takes you under a series of bridges, all of which are covered extensively in graffiti tags. I photographed a fair few and they're all available to view in the slideshow below. There's also a series of stone sculptures along the way, all unattributed and most defaced by graffiti.
