Canadian band Wintersleep on the last date of their UK tour, performing at The Deaf Institute. I hadn't actually listened to any of their music prior to day of their performance but I have to say it was an euphoric experience, a perfect send-off to this country before they headed back home.

Shields at The Deaf Institute
A few shots today of Newcastle band Shields performing in support of Wintersleep at The Deaf Institute last Sunday. I did like that they'd brought their own blue flourencent lights for their stage kit.

Driver Drive Faster at The Deaf Institute
Here's a few shots of headline act Driver Drive Faster, who I've photographed before at last years' Imploding Inevitable Festival.

Golden Fable at The Deaf Institute
Golden Fable is a new side project of Tim and Sam's Tim and the Sam Band with Tim and Sam. Featuring Tim and Becca from the group, the music still has the same ethereal quality to it but with a bit more of beat underlying the songs and featuring a great deal more singing. They actually stepped away from their microphones at one point, jumping down in front of the stage and performing acoustically for one song. A section of the crowd were making a lot of noise during the performance up until that point but they were shushed into silence while they played.
If you'd like to listen to their music, they've released a couple of singles so far which are available from their online shop along with some lovely t-shirts, printed by those fine folk Peris and Corr (who are also responsible for my Cardboard Kid t-shirts.

Glad Eyes at The Deaf Institute
I do like taking photographs in the Deaf Institute. It's very easy to get up-close to the stage, it's at a nice elevation for getting a good angle on the musicians and the lighting isn't too dark. Here's a few shots of Glad Eyes, who were the opening act at this Hey! Manchester gig.

King Creosote & Jon Hopkins at The Deaf Institute
King Creosote and Jon Hopkins performing at The Deaf Institute. Lots of jokes about losing the Mercury Music Prize, one temperamental keyboard and some gloriously beautiful music.

frànçois & The Atlas Mountains at The Deaf Institute
The rather sparkly frànçois and The Atlas Mountains performing at The Deaf Institute in support of King Creosote and Jon Hopkins. Singing songs about kissing and falling (so I'm told).
